Early years (2)

Wolfram was passionate about drawing from an early age. He observed (and later photographed) the villages and works of art in the countryside around Pforzheim and then represented them with great accuracy with his coloured pens.
Together with his older brother, he built small-scale farmhouses and castles in the garden.
Wolfram was particularly interested in folk art and, over time, he accumulated a comprehensive knowledge of German and European regional traditions.

He showed little interest in school and tried to avoid - wherever possible - all the activities that the state expected German youth to take part in.
At the age of 14, Wolfram began a carpenter’s apprenticeship. He hoped it would serve as the foundation for his artistic activity in years to come.
He used his precious free-time to explore the surrounding area by bike and, later on, for undertaking excursions into the mountains. These experiences were to play an ever-important role in his future artistic career.
